How to Help a Cat in Need While on Vacation in Greece
Greece is beautiful… and home to millions of stray cats. If you spot a cat in need during your visit, you can make a real difference — but it’s important to do it safely and responsibly.

Please describe the situation and the cat in need.
2. Veterinary Care & Upfront Payment
We will guide you directly to one of our trusted vets.
All veterinary costs must be paid upfront at the clinic.
We will keep you updated on the cat’s health and recovery progress.
3. Temporary Boarding
Once the cat is healthy and no longer requires hospitalization, it will move to a paid boarding facility.
The CatHouse is always full, so we collaborate with partner shelters and foster homes.
Boarding costs €10/day.
The first month must be paid upfront.
This covers food, litter, and daily care.
4. Adoption Preparation
We can help prepare the cat for adoption, but please note:
Cats have a much higher chance of being adopted in your home country.
We can only assist if you are willing to adopt the cat yourself or secure an adopter at home.
Health & Travel Requirements:
Kittens:
Double vaccination (1 month apart)
Rabies vaccine
Microchip
Deworming + flea/tick treatment
EU Pet Passport
Minimum age to travel: 3.5 months
Adult cats:
One vaccination + rabies
Microchip
Deworming + flea/tick treatment
EU Pet Passport
⏳ Preparation time: ~3 months for kittens, ~2 months for adults (if healthy).
➡️ Keep in mind: during this time, you are responsible for covering boarding, paperwork, and veterinary care.
5. Travel Arrangements
Once the cat’s passport and vaccines are ready, we arrange safe travel:
Easy options: Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Sweden → flight escorts are often available.
Switzerland & Norway: you must be ready to commit to traveling back to personally pick up the cat.
UK citizens: we can arrange a round trip through the Netherlands, with pick-up available in Harwich.
We will guide you through all available options to ensure the cat arrives safely.
Why This System Works
Greece has no state shelters or government support for stray animals.
Every cat deserves safe accommodation and proper medical care.
With your support, tourists can make a real, lasting impact—without leaving a cat in uncertain conditions.
