Finally some good news after a hectic period for the CatHouse...
Nala and Simba arrived in our care last May, two young kittens looking for a home but still unsure about humans. They were always sweet with the other cats, but people were another story.
Nala especially spent most of her time hiding and keeping her distance, watching the world from a safe corner. Trust takes time, and some cats simply need someone patient enough to wait for them.
And then Thomas appeared. ❤️
After months of waiting, both Nala and Simba were adopted in November, and what a beautiful transformation it has been. With patience, kindness, and a calm home, Nala slowly opened her heart. The little kitten who once hid from everyone has grown into a tender, affectionate cat who enjoys being close to her human.
This is exactly why we do what we do. Some cats just need time, patience, and the right person to help them bloom.
Thank you Thomas for giving Nala and Simba the chance to grow, trust again, and become the beautiful, loving cats they were meant to be. 🧡

Learning to trust doesn’t happen all at once.
Sometimes it starts with a flinch.
Sometimes with fear.
Sometimes with just… staying.
Nyra and Demian didn’t come to us broken.
They came scared.
And there’s a big difference.
Hands once meant danger.
Voices once meant stress.
So now they watch first.
They think.
They decide.
And slowly, very slowly, they choose to trust again.

Not because she’s “fixed”,

Bang. Teruggetrokken. Hoogstwaarschijnlijk achtergelaten.
Toen we ze veilig konden vangen, was hun angst duidelijk zichtbaar. Ze vertrouwen mensen nog niet — niet omdat ze agressief zijn, maar omdat ze geleerd hebben dat mensen verdwijnen.
Wat ze wél vertrouwen, is elkaar.
Ze blijven altijd samen. Slapen samen. Verstoppen zich samen.
Samen voelen ze zich iets minder bang. 🤍
Ze verblijven nu in opvang bij de CatHouse, maar met zoveel andere katten om hen heen blijft het onrustig voor hen. Ze willen niet opnieuw naar een pleeggezin.
Ze hebben een eigen thuis nodig.
Een rustig huis.
Geduldige mensen.
Een familie die begrijpt dat vertrouwen tijd nodig heeft.
Met rust, stabiliteit en liefde zullen Nyra & Demian langzaam opbloeien. Ze hebben alleen iemand nodig die in hen gelooft.

Kittens worden vaak binnen een paar dagen geadopteerd.
Maar sommige zielen blijven achter.
Stil. Geduldig. Onzichtbaar.
Captain is zo’n kat.
Captain is 14 jaar oud.
Een zachtaardige ziel die ooit iemands huisgenoot was.
Zijn baasje vroeg hulp voor een gebitsbehandeling. Dat hebben we gedaan.
Maar toen het moment kwam om hem terug te halen, werd gezegd dat hij niet meer welkom was.
En zo bleef Captain alleen achter.
Captain heeft chronische gingivostomatitis.
Hij heeft geen tanden meer en heeft elke vier maanden een cortisone-injectie nodig om comfortabel te blijven.
Verder is hij rustig, liefdevol en ontzettend zacht van karakter.
Hij houdt van natvoer.
Hij houdt van zachte aaien.
En vooral: hij houdt ervan om dicht bij zijn mensen te zijn.
Dat is alles wat hij wil.
Geen drukte.
Geen chaos.
Gewoon gezelschap.
Oudere katten vragen niet veel.
Ze slopen je huis niet.
Ze eisen geen constante aandacht.
Ze willen alleen nog ergens bij horen.
Captain heeft misschien niet veel jaren meer.
Maar de jaren die hij nog heeft, verdienen warmte, veiligheid en liefde.
Een bank.
Een hand.
Een mens die blijft.
Hij is niet “te oud”.
Hij is precies de juiste leeftijd voor iemand die begrijpt dat de mooiste liefde de rustige is.

(The things we think are “normal” can actually harm our cats)

Most people love their cats deeply,
but even good cat parents make these common mistakes without realizing it 👇

1. Letting cats roam outdoors
It feels “natural,” but it exposes them to:
• traffic
• toxins
• fights
• parasites
• infections
And hunting mice can transmit toxoplasma, which harms both cats and humans

2. Feeding only dry kibble
Cats don’t drink enough water on their own.
A 100 percent dry food diet often leads to:
• dehydration
• kidney strain
• urinary crystals
• bladder infections

Wet food or mixed diet is almost always healthier

3. Ignoring litter box rules
Cats are picky
Dirty boxes or scented litter = stress, accidents, UTIs, and behavioral problems
Scoop daily, wash weekly, and place it in a quiet spot

4. Neglecting mental stimulation
Cats get bored too.
Without toys, climbing spots, or playtime, they develop:
• aggression
• anxiety
• destructive scratching
• depression

A 10 minute play session can change their entire behavior

5. Punishing bad behavior
Yelling or hitting doesn’t teach cats anything
It only breaks trust
Redirect and reward — it works every time

6. Skipping yearly vet visits
Cats hide pain extremely well
By the time you “notice” something, it’s already advanced
Regular checkups and vaccinations prevent serious disease

7. Toxic plants in the home
Lilies, aloe, philodendrons, dieffenbachia — even one nibble can be dangerous

This gentle, long-haired black boy is only 7 months old, but all he truly wants is a quiet corner, warm hands, and a place to belong.
Nyx is the kind of cat who will softly curl up beside you, fall asleep near your heartbeat, and remind you how peaceful life can feel with a loving soul nearby. He doesn’t ask for much — just safety, kindness, and someone to call his own.
Right now, Nyx is still waiting in foster care. If someone opens their heart to him, he can travel to the Netherlands on Monday, 2 February instead of staying behind and waiting longer for a family to find him.
We hope his next nap will be in a forever home, not in temporary care 🤍

Gigi is niet “moeilijk”.
Gigi is getraumatiseerd.
Ooit leefde hij gelukkig op straat, met vertrouwen in de wereld om hem heen.
Tot één onoplettend moment alles veranderde.
Zijn poot werd verbrijzeld, zijn leven stond op z’n kop, en de vele dierenartsbezoeken braken niet alleen zijn lichaam… maar ook zijn vertrouwen.
Wanneer Gigi blaast, spreekt zijn angst.
Angst die is ontstaan door pijn, vastgehouden worden en verwarring.
Maar achter die angst zit een kat die veiligheid zoekt. Rust. Zachtheid.
Met geduld, zachte stemmen en zijn geliefde natvoer opent Gigi langzaam zijn hart weer.
Hij laat aanraking toe.
Hij slaapt weer rustig.
Hij is aan het helen.
Gigi zoekt geen perfect huis.

Het leven is tot nu toe niet eerlijk geweest voor dit kleine kereltje. Kichi is FELV-positief getest, maar ondanks dat, barst hij van de energie, vriendelijkheid en liefde. Hij is hyperactief, speels en ontzettend sociaal, altijd op zoek naar knuffels en aandacht – een klein hartje in een bolletje vacht.
We willen niet dat deze lieve jongen zijn leven alleen in een bench doorbrengt, alleen vanwege zijn diagnose. Hij verdient een liefdevol thuis, bij iemand die begrijpt dat FELV-katten gelukkig kunnen leven, vooral samen met een andere FELV-positieve kat of een huisgenoot die al positief is.

Masia is een 4-jarige Russische Blauwe dame met een klein, teder hartje. Ze is rustig, lief en enorm mensgericht. Geen drukte, geen chaos voor haar. Masia bloeit op in een kalme omgeving waar ze haar eigen tempo mag volgen 🤍

Ze houdt van zachte aaitjes, naast je slapen en gewoon samen zijn. Andere katten vindt ze minder fijn, dus Masia zoeken we echt als enige prinses in huis. Een plek waar ze zich weer veilig mag voelen en waar geduld en liefde vanzelfsprekend zijn.

💗 Leia the white princess is calm, tender, and incredibly sweet. She plays nicely and then enjoys her quiet time, often coming close to make little biscuits, purr softly, and sit in your arms. She loves closeness and brings a peaceful, comforting presence.

💗 Cosma the tortoiseshell is a purring machine — so loud you can hear her across the room. The moment she sees you, she rolls onto her back asking for belly rubs. She comes to you gently and shyly, especially when you’re resting, wanting to sit together and share calm moments. She’s affectionate and sensitive, with the softest heart.
